Magnolia virginiana

Native tree;  10–35 ft. lustrous leaves silver beneath; creamy lemon‑scented flowers. Blooms May–June (sporadic summer) followed by green pods that burst open in August. Red seeds are attractive to birds. Prefers full sun and moist to wet, acidic soil. Great candidate for the rain garden, woods edge planting or as specimen tree in a small garden. May retain leaves in warm winters.
